Uzbekistan Establishes Coordination Council to Enhance Analytical and Research Capabilities
On December 31, 2024, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution aimed at improving the efficiency of activities in strategic analysis and research related to the country’s social, political, and economic development.
How Will the Coordination Council Operate?
According to the Ministry of Justice, a Coordination Council has been established to oversee the activities of analytical and research structures. One of its primary tasks is to regularly present the President of Uzbekistan with long-term strategic analytical documents and proposals on domestic and foreign policy issues. The Coordination Council will serve as a consultative body responsible for organizing strategic studies on internal and external political processes, as well as coordinating all stages of these research activities.
Who Will Supervise the Coordination Council?
The overall leadership and coordination of the council’s work, as well as ensuring interagency cooperation, will be carried out by the Presidential Advisor on Special Assignments. Since August 2023, this position has been held by Sardor Umurzakov, the former head of the Presidential Administration.
To ensure the council’s effectiveness, specialized working groups will be created to address the following key areas:
- Ensuring security and social stability
- Improving state and public administration
- Analyzing the country’s socio-economic development
- Developing proposals on foreign policy and international cooperation
- Strategic planning and regional development
- Addressing issues related to the environmental agenda, including climate change and water scarcity
The establishment of the Coordination Council highlights the government’s commitment to adopting a more systematic and evidence-based approach to addressing Uzbekistan’s key development challenges.
